An Overview from Christoph:

The QOSA workshop days at the Gold Coast and in Brisbane provide accessible and at the same time mindful music activities. Joyful creative music making will help deepen musical understandings and nurture music literacy. We will explore and develop music pedagogy processes with world music materials, which are adaptable for a variety of age groups.

The days three sessions offer:

  • Rhythm development and melody making in conjunction with movement.
  • Vocal activities with classroom instruments and occasional Ukulele accompaniment.
  • Canons, Ostinato and part song arrangements.
  • Vocal and instrumental arrangements designed to foster musical improvisation.
  • Integration of various artistic expressions involving imagery, story, vocal and instrumental expression.

Presenters: Tina Beh, Leanne Laboo, Lucy Taylor       Our Stories. A Visual. A Poem.

Saturday 25 February 2023, Toowoomba Grammar School, East Toowoomba

Celebrate our stories through Dance - Leanne

With body percussion, vocalising and movement sequences, and through sharing the book “Shake a Leg” by Indigenous author Boori Monty Pryor, we learn the importance of celebrating our stories through music and dance and inviting a gratitude mindset.

Kaleidoscope, moving symmetry - Lucy

Explore the idea of symmetry in the elements of body, space and relationships, inspired by the movement and shape qualities of a beautiful kaleidoscope. Then extend the theme to voice and instruments to create a multi faceted performance piece.

Sleeping Outdoors, a playful poem - Tina

A poem can be a window to explore movement and choreography including various props. Explore taking the roles of composer, arranger and conductor in soundscape creations and melodic invention, transforming the simple to the wonderful.

CAIRNS

Presenter: Dr. Sarah Brooke

Saturday 25 February 2023,  Bentley Park College

Sunday 26 February 2023,  Bentley Park College

Two special days with Dr Sarah Brooke:

Let's start with speech.  A poem, a rhyme, a spelling list?  What can we do with it?  How can we play with it?  How can a community of music makers turn it into a musical masterpiece?  Perhaps that's a bit much of an ask, but we'll be having a go.

Orff Schulwerk is about creatively and playfully engaging learning in music so that everyone can contribute in their own way.  These workshops will show a range of ideas and strategies for engaging learners in music education.

Come prepared to play instruments, sing, move, laugh and connect with others.

We are so pleased to bring you 5 fabulous presenters, from international, interstate and local locations, ready to bring the fun, inspire, and get your creative juices flowing.

Simple collaborative ideas turn into musical masterpieces.

You will extend your knowledge, expand your repertoire, gain insights into your own creativity, all while enjoying the company of like-minded teachers.

There will be time for reflection and discussion about the correlations between what we create during the workshops and the ACARA elaborations.

Immerse yourself in singing, dancing and playing, exploring lesson ideas that can be adapted for any context.

We hope to see you there!
